By building on the promising results of previous work, the project will propose a framework that generates opportunities for the creation of comprehensive partnerships in the form of interconnected knowledge ecosystems, in local communities able to foster improved science education for all citizens. It will also initiate a concerted effort to make the evidence about the benefits of open schooling a driving force in European and national policymaking.
To achieve these, the project is introducing the powerful concept of “learning ecologies” as a vehicle for envisaging and realising impactful local open schooling partnerships as science learning continuums for all. A Learning Ecology is the physical, social, and cultural context in which learning takes place. It has a physical dimension, which may include easy access to nature, science museums, advanced science programmes, various synergies, etc. https://listserv.eun.org/mailman/listinfo/sles
The partners have ran pilot projects across Europe in 2023/4. The Irish project, Intertwined, involved the creation of a large-scale STEAM-based mosaic by members of the community: a library, a group of transition year students and a mosaic artist. The project focussed on the science of the brain and was used as a platform to increase engagement with the library. See here for more info.
CÚRAM will run/map 10 more of these projects between now and Summer 2025. If you would like to join the National SLE community to find out more about these type of projects, please complete the form below. You will receive updates on the latest project activities and results, participate in workshops and events on the topic, and become part of an engaged network of open schooling and science education enthusiasts from all over Europe!
